What are Teleseminars?

A teleseminar is a phone call. You simply pick up your phone and dial the phone number, followed by a pin code. You will be charged by your phone company for a regular long-distance call. The line's are usually muted for most of the call, so you will usually not be expected to speak for most of the call. However, at the start of a call we usually open the lines for people to introduce themselves.

(Note that on paid teleseminar classes the format is a little different and we open up the line for questions at the end.)

COST: The cost of call is the same as for a regular phone call. There is no extra charge. If you do not have unlimited long-distance, or are calling from outside the U.S. you can listen on-line from a link on the event page if you prefer.

How to Join a Teleseminar

Dial in 5 minutes before the teleseminar begins.
Enter the pin number at the prompt followed by the # key.

If the line is open at the start of the call and people are invited to introduce themselves, don't be shy. Speak clearly - say your name, where you are calling from, and include your website address if you have one. Speak clearly. Spending a few minutes giving people a chance to introduce themselves at the start of a call creates a sense of community and reminds everyone that it is a live event.

A phone call has a sense of intimacy to it. Telephones have been around for a hundred years or more, The power of teleseminars is that they make use of familiar technology and that we can now link up across the world to make that intimacy global.

To get the most out of a teleseminar - a few tips

  • Turn off call-waiting.
  • Wear a headset if you have one, or use a speaker-phone.
  • Plan ahead. Have snacks, water, or whatever you need, on hand.
  • Take notes. We often have study guides available to download. Download them ahead of time.
  • Replays are usually available, often within within minutes of the end of the call.
  • Invite your friends and colleagues to the call if it's a free call. Forward details of the replays to those who could not make it to the live call.
  • Teleseminars are an amazing opportunity for distance learning. No traveling, no waiting. No burning of fossil fuels. And you favorite snacks are a few steps away! Enjoy!

If you are a guest on a Teleseminar

  • Do not use a cell phone or a wireless phone. Batteries can fail. Both can create background noise that can ruin the replay recording.
  • Speak up. You don't need to shout, but especially if you tend to speak quietly, it is important that you bring energy into your voice.
  • Intonate. Speak clearly and expressively. Otherwise you will sound dull, no matter what you're saying.
Imagine you are speaking to a large group of people, and guess what? Your are! And they have called in from all over the world to hear you. So give them energy!
  • Stand while you speak. We have found that if you are not naturally a speaker it is really helpful to stand while talking on a teleseminar. You will feel more relaxed and confident.
